Getting a .in domain is simple, but it has one extra step compared to other domains: eKYC verification. This guide walks you through the full process, from booking your domain to making it live.
Step 1: Check Prices and Book Your .in Domain
- Check .in domain prices: activeservers.in/in-domain-registration
- Book your .in domain: Register your domain here
Search for the name you want, add it to your cart, and complete the order.
Step 2: Complete eKYC from the Client Portal
After booking, you’ll get an email notification asking you to complete eKYC.
- Log in to your client portal.
- Open the eKYC option for your .in domain.
- Start the verification.
Note: Your domain can’t go live until eKYC is complete, so finish it as soon as possible.
Step 3: Keep These Details Ready
During eKYC, you’ll need:
- Mobile number linked to your Aadhar (for the OTP)
- Aadhar number
- DigiLocker PIN
Tip: Forgot your DigiLocker PIN? Reset it on the DigiLocker app or website before you start.
Step 4: Wait for the Review (60–90 Minutes)
After you submit eKYC, your domain status changes to “In Review.” The review usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. You don’t need to do anything during this time.
Step 5: Make Your Domain Live
Once the review is complete:
- Update the nameservers to point your domain to your hosting.
- Add DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, etc.) as needed for your website and email.
DNS changes can take a few hours to update worldwide, after which your domain will be fully working.
Need to Change Your Mobile Number?
If the mobile number on your account is wrong or doesn’t match your Aadhar-linked number, you won’t get the OTP. To fix this:
- Raise a support ticket from your client portal. Not sure how? Follow this guide: How to create a support ticket in the client area.
- Share one of the following with our support team:
- Your correct Aadhar-linked mobile number, or
- Your masked Aadhar for manual verification. You can download it from the UIDAI portal.
What is a masked Aadhar? It’s a copy of your Aadhar that hides the first 8 digits of your Aadhar number, so your details stay safe.
Once your number is updated, you can continue with eKYC.
