Step-by-Step Guide
1. Access the Exchange Admin Center
Go to https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com
(Alternatively, open the Microsoft 365 admin center and select Exchange under “Admin centers.”)
2. Navigate to Message Trace
In the left sidebar, select Mail flow → Message trace.
3. Start a New Trace
Click on Start a trace to begin your search.
4. Enter Search Details

Sender or Recipient: Type the email address you want to trace.

Date Range: Choose the time period for which you want to review the messages.
(You can trace emails up to 10 days old for quick results, or generate extended reports for up to 90 days.)
5. View Results
After running the trace, you’ll see:

Message ID
-
Subject
-
Status (Delivered, Failed, Pending, etc.)

Timestamp
You can also click on any message to view detailed trace information — including delivery hops, event timelines, and any issues encountered during transmission.
